Things to do
## Things to do in Tirana Tirana is famous for the way its Ottoman, communist and contemporary identities meet in a compact, lively capital. Begin in the city centre at Skanderbeg Square, where the Skanderbeg Monument, Et’hem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower frame the historic heart of Tirana. From there, explore the National History Museum area, walk along pedestrianised Murat Toptani Street and continue towards the Pyramid, one of the city’s most recognisable modern landmarks. Bunk’Art 2 offers a thought-provoking look at Albania’s recent history in a former Cold War bunker, while the Blloku district is the place to experience Tirana’s café culture, restaurants, bars and nightlife. For a slower side of the city, stroll along Bulevardi Dëshmorët e Kombit to Mother Teresa Square, then continue to the Grand Park and Artificial Lake for walking, picnics, cafés and mountain views. Tirana is also a good base for outdoor activities: ride the Dajti Ekspres cable car towards Mount Dajti for panoramic views, fresh air and walking trails, or make a short trip beyond the centre to places such as Petrela, Farkë and Brar. A weekend in Tirana can easily combine central sightseeing, museums and Albanian food with an evening in Blloku, a lakeside walk and a half-day on Mount Dajti. The city’s relaxed café scene, accessible green spaces and mix of history and nightlife make it suited to both a first city break and a longer Albanian itinerary.
